Art Therapy

Open your mind, open your heart, allow the fortifications to come down and allow your Soul to present you with the healing.
Find a safe harbour that allows you to unburden in a non- judgemental nurturing environment.

What is Art Therapy?

Art therapy is based on ‘art’ as a ‘therapy’ using colour, shape and line along with other different techniques, as opposed to art for fun and enjoyment or to hang on walls. The ‘Transpersonal’ aspect relates to the totality of each person. This incorporates everything beyond the person, belief systems, faith, religion, spirituality, family, ancestors, cultural, history, intuition, dreams and more. In other words, an art therapist works with the client in a holistic way not simply focusing on just the physical, emotional and mental aspects but the entirety of the client’s being. The art therapist guides the client to finding their own answers, through the art the client makes during a session, so the client is then able to see what is in their own art making.

Art therapy goes to where words fail or are simply not enough. As a qualified Transpersonal Art Therapist Marnee offers one on one sessions for clients as well as one day groups with simple one off exercises that can assist with insight and well-being ie. mandalas, collaging, journaling etc. Making your own journal to record your insights, your dreams or special moments in your life.

Marnee is offering these one on one sessions for clients who need more focused assistance to work towards healing. Art Therapy works when the client and the therapist form a Therapeutic Alliance and work hand in hand with the therapist guiding the client to finding their own answers through a trusting relationship. The emphasis here is focusing on the art and what that brings up for the client, assisting the client to move through their issues using their own innate creativity to access those answers and thus healing.

The art therapy colouring books of today are good for stress release and relaxation or to use as a mindfulness practice to bring you into the here and now. However, they do not address the underlying problems or issues that the field of art therapy works with, which offers much more on a deeper level to assist clients to move beyond these situations or limitations.

Who I Work With

Marnee works to support women and men looking for a creative therapy solution for self-esteem, mental and emotional health issues as well as carers, family members and palliative care clients looking for assistance on their journey.
Take my hand, find your strength and look to the light. We are all worthy of being loved and healed so we can continue our journey to where we were meant to be, being the amazing light we came to share.

First session is 1.5 hrs to discuss your situation and fill out the relevant paperwork and get a general feel for what art therapy is about, with any following sessions being an hour per visit.

Sessions for Group work:
Sessions for Women’s groups:
Simple therapeutic groups with exercises that assist with:

In a typical group session you might be asked to make your own journal to record your insights, your dreams or special moments in your life, or perhaps make a self-care box. A self-care box is a great way of reminding yourself and having on hand the necessary items in the box for the times your mind isn’t functioning the way you want it to. This is your go to that can alleviate your mood, bring you back to a more peaceful state so you can find a little more clarity and move forward once more. One of my palliative clients made one of these for her daughter, a beautiful heartfelt reminder for her daughter once her mother had continued on her journey.

If you are drawn to any of these sessions, then please contact me to book or to arrange an obligation free 15min consultation to find out how I may be able to help you.

Testimony

I had five private sessions with Marnee who helped me work through a range of issues from my past. Marnee is a very gentle, kind, respectful and client led art therapist. I love the activities we did in sessions as they were really helpful, insightful and eye-opening into what I was going through and needed to learn or be aware of. I found each session very helpful in dealing with what I was going through and connecting it to what I needed to work on in my life. Marnee is a very grounded person and I found her presence as I was working through some difficult life stuff, to be calming and caring. I will continue to use some of the activities she did with me in sessions, in my every day life to help me stay present and mindful of my body, emotions and thoughts. Thank you Marnee. (K.H.)
